On 15 May 1966 the 34th TFS was organized at Korat RTAFB, assigned to the 41st Air Division (located at Yokota AB, Japan) but attached for all practical purposes to the resident 388th Tactical Fighter Wing. All equipment, including F-105s, and all personnel came from resources of the 41st Air Division, especially the 36th TFS.

During the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1975, helicopter crews were able to locate their fellow Marines on the ground by asking them to "pop a smoke" in the landing zone . The U.S. Marine Corps introduced the M48A3 Patton Tank and the M51A1 Ontos Anti-Tank vehicles to the Vietnam War in May of 1965, a war that many, including the Commander of Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV), Army’s Gen. LST 1165 was laid down on 1 December 1952 launched 14 July 1953 in January 1954 LST 1165 joined the Atlantic Fleet and was part of the Atlantic Amphibious Force in 1955 LST 1165 took part in the filming of Away All Boats at Vieques Island, Puerto Rico. 1 July 1955 LST 1165 was named USS Washoe County LST 1165. The Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association is a non-profit war veterans' group comprised of helicopter pilots from all countries who flew helicopters in the Vietnam War. Out of the estimated 40,000 helicopter pilots who flew helicopters in the Vietnam War, approximately 14,000 are currently members or have been members in the past.
