The 1st Battalion 83rd Artillery organization represents former members of the 83rd Artillery along with some Australian and New Zealand Veterans of the Vietnam War. When we first arrived in Vietnam we were with the Australian Task Force that was in the II Field Force area of operations. In early 1968 after the TET offensive, the 83rd moved north to the I Corp area of operations where they remained until the 83rd stood down in May 1971.

The 553rd Recon Wing served at Korat AirBase , Thailand from 1967-1971. We were known as BatCats. 'Shadow' Gunships. The 71st Special Operations Squadron (SOS) was an Air Force Reserve unit from Columbus, IN that was activated on May 13, 1968. Air America's tenure in Asia began when Civil Air Transport (CAT) crossed the river into Shanghai in 1946. It ended on a rooftop in downtown Saigon in 1975. First in, last out. That was CAT and Air America in China, Korea and in Southeast Asia. The Air America Association is composed of former employees of CAT, Air America, their families and their affiliates. This is their web site. Its purpose is to capture that experience and present it in historical context.

Established by Congress in 1923, the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) commemorates the service, achievements, and sacrifice of U.S. armed forces. ABMC manages 24 overseas military cemeteries, and 25 memorials, monuments, and markers. Nearly all the cemeteries and memorials specifically honor those who served in World War I or World War II.
