12:00 AM - 12:00 AM
We had a great event where we served a quality meal, free of charge, to all who attended. We had the American Heritage Girls Troop 0314 and Girl Scouts to join us. They bussed tables and said the Pledge of Allegiance with those who attended.
United Daughters of the Confederacy, Calvin Brewer Chapter and Daughters of the Am. Revolution, Elk River Chapter, joined to help serve and they provided desserts and drinks for the event. People's Bank and Trust made a donation to help cover the cost of the food along with Humana.
Captain Bill Robinson, longest held enlisted POW in Vietnam, attended and spoke.
Wearing his original Army uniform from when he was in Vietnam, Howard Thompson, 1st LT, Vietnam veteran was also a speaker. He was given a special set of Vietnam coins for his work with Vietnam veterans. Lloyd Smith, a local exceptional singer, sang periodic, upbeat, songs from the Vietnam-era. Mitch Campbell was also a guest speaker. Mitch lived in Vietnam for nearly a year and described to everyone how appreciative the county is today for the efforts after the war.
We gave out Vietnam pins, stickers, specially made Vietnam walking sticks and tshirts, all free to attendees.
The event went over very well with many staying after to talk and express how much they enjoyed the event.
