These hero's deserve to be thanked before its too late. We have a dedicated group of volunteers at the Elks who would make sure each ceremony would be special. I don't know how many there are out there. With over 30 assisted living facilities in the area, I would like to order 200 pins if available. This would be an ongoing project. It would be an honor to do this. I am filling in blanks with approximate numbers. I honestly don't know how many Vietnam/Vietnam era Veterans are living in assisted living. This may not really qualify as an event per se, but we spent the past few weeks hand writing thank you cards to all the Vietnam veterans in our database we had or could find addresses for. Each card contained a personal message of thanks. Our database reflects approximately 140 men and women we have given lapel pins and DAR certificates to. However, some didn't have current addresses and sadly, several had passed away.

On March 27th, 2025, the University of New Haven's Office of Military & Veteran Affairs welcomed a host of Vietnam veterans and other local veteran to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the war ahead of the official Vietnam Veteran's Day on March 29th. In addition to Ryan Noonan's (Manager, Military & Veteran Affairs, USMC Veteran) remarks, current student veteran and Global War on Terror veteran Donald Logodicio offered reflective thoughts, and West Haven Vietnam Veteran Mark Levine expressed appreciation for the recognition as well as what the day means for him and his Vietnam Veteran brethren. The University's Army ROTC program participated in the flag raising as 4 members of the program served as color-guard while Mr Logodicio and Mr Levine raised the flag, representing three generations of service members: Vietnam Era, Global War on Terror, and the "future generation" of service members as represented by the Army ROTC program. Following the flag raising, we welcomed our off campus guest to a private breakfast where we shared stories of our service, fond memories, and discussed similarities in our time in service: experiences in country during both wars, what it was like coming home, and transitioning back into the civilian world, etc. The day was a resounding success as both on and off campus guest praised the thoughtful words of all of the speakers, and the three generations symbolism hit home with a lot of guests who have family members either in the military currently or are veterans.
