Swords to Plowshares hosts annual Veterans Day events at our Veterans Community Center (VCC), two drop-in centers, and six veterans supportive housing sites where veterans, staff, families, and local dignitaries gather to honor veterans' service and sacrifices. Typical celebrations include keynote speakers, food, and the chance to socialize with other veterans and local dignitaries. The chance to award Vietnam era commemorative pins and certificates will enhance our annual celebration by adding this long-overdue honor for Vietnam era veterans with public recognition. City, state, and federal dignitaries often drop in for these ceremonies, but at present none has confirmed attendance.
While the main event will be at our VCC, the smaller events at our supportive housing sites and drop-in centers are simultaneously held for veterans unable to travel to the VCC due to health or other conditions restricting travel. Staff will likewise provide food, gifts, or other honors directly to veterans in their units who are unable to attend the festivities in the community spaces.
Family members and loss survivors also typically attend in unpredictable numbers.
