12:00 AM - 12:00 AM
Two planes filled with veterans and their flight companions, or guardians, will leave General Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and head to Washington, D.C. where they will tour the memorials built in their honor. Approximately 155 veterans, including 151 Vietnam Veterans will experience a day of honor, respect, gratitude and healing as they tour some of the most important sites in Washington. On the return flight, each veteran will receive "Mail Call"--letters we collect from the veterans' families, school children and community members--and our Vietnam Veterans will also receive the Vietnam Lapel Pin, which I am requesting. Upon return to Milwaukee, we will have a thousand or more people waiting to give these veterans the "Welcome Home" they never received. Family members, local fire and police and military, high school bands and cheer squads all add to this special evening.
