The Military Affairs Association was organized to increase public awareness and understanding of the need for national defense preparedness through recognition of the accomplishments and contributions of local veterans, active Iowa Army and Air Force National Guard personnel, active US Reserve personnel, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) members and active duty military personnel in and around Johnson County, Iowa.
The association provides a wide range of support to local Memorial Day services, Fourth of July programs, Veteran’s Day observances (including the Midwest’s premiere Veterans Day Banquet), active duty military musical group performances, ROTC commissioning ceremonies, local National Guard and Reserve units mobilized for OIF/OEF and other active duties, and seminars for employers, families, and the general public on the benefits of military service and the benefits of employing members of the Guard and Reserve.
The Military Affairs Association conducts monthly meetings on the third Friday of every month except December beginning at 8 a.m. Meetings are held at the Iowa National Guard Armory in Iowa City. Veterans, active members of the National Guard and Reserve components, ROTC members, active duty military personnel, and anyone interested in supporting the association are welcome to become a member and participate in association actives.
