553rd Recon Wing

The 553rd Recon Wing served at Korat AirBase , Thailand from 1967-1971. We were known as BatCats. The aircrews flew combat missions over Vietnam everyday from a fleet of 25 modified EC-121-R camouflaged aircraft and were serviced 24/7 by ground maintenance personnel. During the Vietnam War, most of what we did was classified. When the Wing initially set up operations, troops and equipment were ferried from Otis AFB, Massachusetts to Thailand with support of flight crew and maintenance personnel; together we were part of the team of 1st Wave BatCats in 1967.
